A Peek into the Application of Digitalization in Coal Mining

Liputan6.com, Jakarta - PT Black Diamond Resources Tbk (COAL), a publicly listed coal mining company, through its subsidiary, PT Dayak Membangun Pratama (DMP), has launched its operational digital transformation, reaching the Go-Live phase, implementing RISE with SAP S/4HANA Cloud in collaboration with SAP Indonesia and PT Trimitra Sistem Solusindo, or TMS Consulting, as its implementation partner.

Black Diamond Resources (BDR) is optimistically addressing operational business challenges by adopting digital transformation in its mining operational processes, which have previously been manually executed, handled by individual managers and not yet integrated.

The digital business operational transformation, in collaboration with SAP through its implementation partner, TMS Consulting, is being implemented as a practice for sustainable business management through accuracy, efficiency, and integrated documentation.

BDR chose SAP as its Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system of choice due to the need for integrated processes and reports from each division, allowing departments requiring data to access them in a visual format.

TMS Consulting Project Manager Susi Haryani explained that for this reason, her team created a production planning module report that helps record production units more efficiently.

Furthermore, the maintenance plan module's KPI report eliminates manual input and can be directly retrieved from the KPI report. Furthermore, the controlling module's pricing solution automatically derives pricing from cost center reports and production costs at each pit.

"So, the division of job descriptions, which previously overlapped, is now regulated by job roles in SAP, which also includes authorization," he said.

The collaboration between SAP, through TMS Consulting, and the BDR began in December 2022, followed by a Kick-Off Ceremony in January 2023, and is on track to reach the Go-Live stage in July 2023.

The scope of the collaboration between PT Black Diamond Resources Tbk and TMS Consulting includes a blueprint workshop to review transaction flows in the BDR. Then, user testing of the SAP implementation, starting from the blueprint phase with key users responsible for business processes, and SAP implementation testing with end users, with consultant support. This also includes leveraging master data and transactions in the pre-Go-Live market.
